PM Raises Concerns about New Type of War

PHNOM PENH: Prime Minister Hun Manet instructed his special forces to prepare for modern warfare in the wake of ever-increasing transnational crime, terrorism and cyber attacks.

Addressing the 28th anniversary of the Special Forces Command in Phnom Penh on November 10, the PM said that traditional war tactics do not have substantial influence in Cambodia and warned of a new kind of war.

"In the past, we were prepared for traditional wars, but we needed to be prepared for new wars, including disaster relief,” he said.

He urged troops to strengthen and modernize their capabilities, especially when it comes to technological defense.

He set out some of recommendations, including strengthening the professionalism of the military and ensuring its loyalty to the motherland and its people. He also advised the leaders to maintain military equipment and use it properly to ensure stability and effectiveness.

He urged the army to strengthen training and human resources to respond to natural and manmade disasters. He also encouraged them to grow their own economy by harvesting crops and raising livestock, which Cambodian military members and their families are encouraged to do when not in active duty.
